Blue and Grey, with Specs of Green Here and There
Dear Fortunate Reader,
I write this in the hope that someone in the future may find this and see where the early warning signs began and how things came to be. Time is of the essence, by the time someone finds and reads this letter, I will no longer be on this earth.
I know they are after me, as soon as they're done with me, they’ll try to cover it up and remove me from all records. That’s what they always do. I work for a totalitarian government made from the remnants of the old world. My work is top secret, but I write this to reveal the truth and exploit their actions, which in doing so opposes and breaks all rules and regulations.
You could say I had a change of heart and now resist the societal standards and norms of today. I know the impression the higher ups are trying to show is a total façade. People nowadays have a thick skull; they are all dull and delusional. They’ve all been brainwashed by the propaganda, and they no longer believe facts and only believe what’s in front of them and rumours.
People think we’re living in a utopian society, where everything is perfect, but they don’t know the underlying truth. A perfect society doesn’t exist: utopia and dystopia are interchangeable and closely linked. Our world is on the scales, and it’s now weighted on the post-apocalyptic tipping point, but we will most definitely cross that borderline.
The world is a lot different to what it was 50 years ago. You’d think that the late 21st century is not that indifferent to early 21st century, but you’d be mistaken.
Everything was leading up to these events and it was obvious, yet nothing was done to prevent such catastrophes. The governments and how they operate: control, political leaders and their tyranny, countries economy crises, climate change to the environment and everyday life has all changed drastically. It is very reminiscent of life during the World Wars, which I’m pretty sure it was called.
History in a way has been altered. I can barely even remember a major event from our past. I wouldn’t be surprised if the government is trying to cover up and delete the past so that future generations believe everything’s been perfect from the get-go. I will use and reference the word government without telling you which government it resides from because they all operate very similarly, and nothing is unique about them. These aspects are the catalyst to how things came to be and if they continue, I believe we will end ourselves and our world will cease to exist.
As I am writing, I was wondering where I should begin.
Life is currently very technologically advanced, and machine based. Machines and humans can’t exist without the other and Artificial Intelligence has become more mainstream thanks to the works of the government. People I’m assuming 50 years ago dreamed that everything would be all futuristic with neon lights on every building, huge holograms, everything’s in sleek modern-look and hover cars amassed in the skyline.
You wouldn’t be wrong to believe that; it’s just how we got there where the problems kick in.
Now at first all these machines and factories benefited us in advancing forward, but towards the latter end, we now see the consequence of entrusting the production and manufacturing of resources to these machines and corrupt companies daily for 50 years straight. The companies that own these factories with these big and heavy industrial machines don’t give a damn about the effect it has on the environment. Pollution, greenhouse gasses and climate change does exist, and we know that now. In a way, this could be seen as an industrial revolution or a steam punk like theme.
I wonder if we’ve had any of those? Now all these companies fall under the jurisdiction of the government, it is them who control and tell these companies what to do. It’s up to the government to how things operate and how long they stay lasting for, and it’s also their call to reduce these problems. But because no action to prevent this was done beforehand, to reduce pollution, climate change has ravaged this world. It is them who is to blame for this.
Carbon dioxide, methane and smoke have now created a small blanket over the skies, and it continues to get bigger. Soon the whole sky will be grey and black. Stepping outside feels so humid, thick and musky. Inhaling even air feels poisonous. The average temperature of the earth is 10 degrees higher than what it was like 50 years ago. All the polar ice caps have melted, and the sea level has been raised by 70 metres. Amsterdam in The Netherlands, Maldives, Venice Italy, Bangladesh, Greenland, Philippines, Mozambique and more are examples of countries that are now submerged because of global warming.
The countries I didn’t say, experience major flash flooding every month, further crippling houses, buildings and businesses. Australia is hit the most when it comes to flash flooding especially in the northern states. Storms, hurricanes and tornados happen more frequently in the places effected the most, especially in the US on the east coast. Beautiful, lush, green fields and jungles have now become barren wastelands that stretch as far as the eye can see. Now skyscrapers and factories take up all that empty space and those factories produce what I’m assuming is nuclear weaponry. Food shortages are now a problem because there aren’t enough or barely any farmlands left. The wildlife and their ecosystems are almost extinct, trees are all cut for logging and to be burned in the big factories as energy and to power their machines. Also because of this, there are barely any grocery store left, the only grocery store that operates in the area is run by the government and items are so expensive they are only sold in small portions. I bet you the higher ups keep all the good stuff to themselves the fat pigs.
The landscape of the world has been terraformed. Imagine the earth, blue and grey with specs of green here and there. That’s what earth looks like from outer space. Climate change and global warming are the main take off here and this happened because no reduction of pollution was done from factories all over the globe and no prevention was done by their governments. Even the people had nothing to say or stand for, no protests or speeches. That just shows how delusional, clueless and careless people nowadays are, but not me.
The governments of the world all operate in a totalitarian manner now. They must’ve all gotten tired of having numerous governments and instead wanted their own at the top. Imperialism and dictatorships have now resurfaced to gain control of an invaded country. The return and reincarnations of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin, people with similar idealistic goals as they are present in this world. Russia was the first to do this after they invaded Ukraine and then after that, invaded and took over the old soviet countries. There was a rest interval, where no blood was shed after Russia invaded the old soviet countries. Very similar to how the Cold War came to be after WWII. Russia now rules over those countries with an iron fist. War is seen as peace, killing is a virtue and ignorance is obedience. These aspects all came to be when a major war broke out. The less countries, the less enemies, so everyone started killing each other and they were not condemned for it but instead were praised for these actions from their governments. This made soldiers continue their heinous acts to appease the reputation of the governments. People pretended that these actions never happened and when asked about such claims, would go off in an anecdotal or tangent way. The screams and shouts of war always sends a chill down my spine. The sounds and horrors of war. It was called World War 3 or WW3/WWIII. It was a nuclear war this one was, every nation used atomic bombs and bombarded everywhere. Buildings and monuments reduced to rubble, even the foundations. This changed landscapes around the world with massive craters in every major city. Some cities are inhabitable because of the radioactive fallout from the bombs. War crimes is now a practiced thing now and it occurred a lot during the war. It’s safe to assume the Geneva Convention is no longer in operation and is most likely abolished. Dehumanisation was also a major problem during the war. Mistreatment and killing of civilians and the torturing of the captured. Civilians were used as bait in a similar manner and style to Nazi Germany’s Blitzkrieg. Before the war the human population was 7 billion, but after the war, it dwindled down to 5 billion. Meaning that there were 2 billion casualties, soldiers and civilians. Human life and decency really aren’t a thing anymore. Control is also represented by slogans with ideals of the government, propaganda posters and the showing of public executions to show the populous what will happen to them if they disobey. This is how obedience from control is conveyed and avoidance from the repercussions. You’re not safe even with your family, you are to report any suspicious behaviour even if they’re family. So that means even your own kids can snitch on you. This further shows the influence of the government on the people.
After the war, every country experienced some form of economic crisis. They needed more money to fund and produce more weapons and nuclear bombs. Power and control over everything seem to be the agenda of every government in today’s world. Only the higher ups get to decide what goes and comes about. If you have anything against that, you would be punishable by death and deleted from record for the safety of everyone else. To sum up that rant of mine, the governments of the worlds are now totalitarian and nothing we can do can stop their façade, actions and beliefs.
Natural resources are now not of the same abundance as they were 50 years ago. There are people out there who are very greedy and take more of a serving of food and water whether it be at restaurant or store. People like them don’t seem to care about the food and water scarcity. Because of the food shortages due to the lack of farmland and crops, famine in the world has resurfaced to a devastating level. Third world countries are impacted the most and their government doesn’t implement anything to fix it. Their higher ups are most likely enjoying the abundance of the country’s resources. Fossil fuel and petrol is in low quantities now too, petrol for vehicles have skyrocketed to $15 per litre.
Because of the increase of petrol price, only the rich can afford and maintain their cars. Older model cars don’t work with the type of petrol we use today. Cars with bad fuel economy suffered the most because buying petrol was more frequent for them, so they’d get rid of their car. Even though the cost of owning and maintaining a car nowadays is very expensive, there are still more cars than the current population of the world. Each family owns at least 3 or 4 cars despite all those factors. Housing space is now a problem too, individual houses are almost non-existent because they take up too much space. Instead, houses are replaced with sky high apartments. You could imagine how crowded and cramped living must be.
The lack of certain produce for medicine and vaccinations has increased deadly diseases and countless cases. Catching a virus is very easy due to the fact everyone is so close to one another. It all started with Covid-19 and all its variants 50 years ago. Millions, nearly a billion have died because of that disease. The government and their slack scientists just gave up with producing a sufficient vaccine that could fully prevent that horrid disease. If you were homeless or poor, you could not afford a vaccine and would just die on the street. Poverty and the homelessness are everywhere, financial aid or service doesn’t exist anymore.
The homeless are shunned and scrutinised in this society. The stark contrast between the rich and poor is very apparent and blatant. The rich and the higher ups all live lavish and luxurious lives while the rest of the population are rotting. Their money and tax money could rebuild our society anew, but instead its used for their own personal gain. I’m debating internally if socialism or communism is better than capitalism in these times despite the problems those two caused in their time. No one is equal in these times, whether it be race, gender, sex, age or affluence. People just don’t care for the well being of others, only themselves.
Everyone follows their own boring daily routine without a sign of emotion. They go to their 9 to 5 job always in a gloomy mood and accept the barely adequate hourly pay. No one seems to have fun nowadays. Fun would be restricted to a point I guess, but that still doesn’t excuse the fact that they should enjoy life and the little things. Instead, they’re stuck up is another way of putting it. Women are over sexualised everywhere, there have been an increase of brothels and prostitution. There are hardly any pure and approachable women out there. They all seem to go after the affluent bad boys as they say. Maybe this is their way of expressing some sort of matriarchy power in this this patriarch world. This could be seen as sexism too, I guess.
If I had to dive into the minds of people nowadays and delve deep, I’d say their minds are empty, unmotivated, brainwashed and empty. The idea here is that people of today’s societal norms are to blame for these problems whether its internal or external. I wonder if there was a book or film with a similar premise.
To the fortunate reader who was stumbled upon this letter, I beg of you to spread the word and this message as it is impossible for me to do so. I’m resisting all urges to not write this letter and I don’t want it to be all for nothing. I want you to carry it out warn about the impending and inevitable future that awaits if nothing is done prevent these problems. I hope that this letter brings forward social and political reform and better lives for future generations.
I’m not sure if I’m the only one that sees the illusion here, a utopia in a dystopia. If dying will help bring forward my message, then I’ll gladly sacrifice my life for humanities future, otherwise it will be all in vain. A very patriotic demise. Its as if I’m a spy who leaked all the information of the enemy and is now captured ready for a suiting death. A recent conviction and quote I stand for is “It may not be the way of the times anymore, but death is what completes a person.” Good luck and goodbye.
